Prague, May 7, 2024 (PROTEXT) – The first international exhibition of artistic posters on the topic of women’s rights in Prague will open on Tuesday, May 7. Artists from all corners of Europe are preparing for the opening. In the gallery of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute, representatives of Polish, Iranian, Ukrainian and Czech posters will meet in person and jointly present a collection in which we will find representatives of thirty-seven countries from four continents.

A unique collection of one hundred and fifty printed posters emerged from an open call in which 347 artists from 50 countries of the world participated. The exhibition presents artists’ views on women’s rights, their status across countries, generations, gender and social status. It is a testimony to the fact that in the 21st century our society is greatly differentiated. On the one hand, the exhibition has a social and strongly alarming aspect, on the other hand, we do not shy away from artistic processing. In the final selection from the 678 posters received, our effort was to present the widest possible spectrum of creators and high-quality posters. A unique collection of posters was created, the ambition of which is to reach the audience at Prague exhibitions and then travel beyond the borders of the Czech Republic and reach the audience through a unique visual and communication medium.

The short list included a large number of legends, such as Polish poster stars Lex Drewinski and Agnieszka Ziemiszewska; Chairman of The 4th Block Ukrainian Poster Triennial Oleg Veklenko and designer Mykola Kovalenko from Ukraine; representatives of Iranian poster and graphics – Aménéh Moayedi, graphic designer and organizer of exhibitions and leading representative of the movement to support Iranian women Women. Life. Freedom, and award-winning Sina Afshtar; but also budding artists. The Czech poster is represented by three generations of artists. The doyen of the Czech poster, artist, graphic artist Jan Rajlich Jr., graphic designer Oleg Slepcoff and Anna Drozenová, who is currently studying at the Tomáš Bata University in Zlín.

“We first approached a few artists who we knew had strong posters on the topic of women’s rights, or who were generally involved in the topic. With great humility, we approached them with a specific invitation to participate in our project. The overwhelming majority responded to the invitation very positively and thanks to this, we managed to create a strong collection that includes posters by experienced and award-winning artists alongside young talented artists. I was delighted that the poster artist community supported us in our first exhibition.” revealed Radoslava Boor, curator of ARTtention Prague.

In addition to the posters themselves, we asked the artists two questions. They could write us something about themselves and their motive that led them to create a particular poster. Each artistic vision is thus supported by an often strong and personal story. You can now watch them together with the poster samples every day on our Instagram account.

Ameneh Moayedi, Bartosz Mamak, Mykola Kovalenko, Ivan Kashlakov, Akram Mokhber, Samira Korshidi, Angiezska Adam and Anna Drozen will open the exhibition on May 7, 2024 in the gallery of the Bulgarian Cultural Institute.
