After the partial demolition work on the neighboring buildings, heavy machinery also started demolishing the main seven-story building of the Carimex building on Rokycanská třída. The infamous Glass Hell will be razed to the ground by Saturday, May 25 at the latest. This will be followed by the demolition of the Citroen car service building.

“By demolishing, we are fulfilling the request of the city, which we expect to sell us the land it owns in the locality. We want the area to come alive and become a cultured and pleasant space corresponding to the 21st century. Due to the proximity of the river, we took the liberty of calling this shopping center OC Úslava,” says InterCora CEO Ivan Hlaváček.

The removal of the object is a fundamental step towards a future property settlement between the investors and the city of Pilsen. A complex of buildings with apartments and office and commercial space should be created on the site. “I want us to approve in the city council as soon as possible after the demolition, ideally in June, an amendment to property relations and the purchase of municipal land, which will open the location to the planned construction,” confirms Pilsen mayor Roman Zarzycký.

The Intercora company is now working on the preparation of the documentation for the building permit, saying that they would like to have everything ready by the fall of this year. “We would like to build at the end of October or the beginning of November. We will start with the construction of a shopping center, followed by a multifunctional building and finally apartments will be built. In the shopping area there will be a Billa supermarket and classic clothing stores, drugstores or fast food. We want to open this part by Christmas 2025,” promises InterCory representative Pavel Šindelář.

The demolition of the building itself will take place gradually, due to the large amount of materials from which it is assembled. “We value the fact that we are demolishing a symbol of the nineties, because we have also been in business since 1990 and coincidentally we participated in the construction of part of this area. We will demolish it gradually so that all types of materials can be recycled,” recalls Petr Březina from the APB company, which is in charge of demolishing the building.

The Carimex complex began to emerge at the end of the nineties, but part of the building was built without a building permit. Only the company and InterCora, RP Letná and MS Letná, which bought the area from the original owner, put an end to protracted legal disputes. In May 2022, they concluded a settlement and cooperation agreement with the city. Its content is precisely the demolition of the building and the sale of part of the land owned by the city. Of the existing buildings, only the gas station will remain in place.
