Few parts of the culture wars are as controversial as the transgender issue. Unlike the other, so far more theoretical impacts of these disputes, they are already showing up in society. From trans women crushing their opponents in sports, to thugs suddenly realizing they are women when they go to jail, to the exponential increase in children identifying as trans, these are all very visible consequences of transgenderism.

The last example in particular arouses passions. Supporters and activists fighting for the rights of trans people say that it is in the interest of children to change their gender as quickly as possible. They often argue about the danger of suicide. Living with the opposite sex is said to be so traumatic that there is an increased risk of killing oneself. In addition, children themselves know very well in which body they feel best. Their opinion should be respected.

They are opposed by skeptics who point out that medical interventions leading to sex change are very invasive and often irreversible. The feeling that a person was born with the wrong gender can be caused by many factors, often social, or it can cover other deeper problems. It is better to wait with interventions, because of gender dysphoria, as is the medical name for the feeling that a person was born with the wrong sex, the child may grow up. In the first half of April, a comprehensive report on the state of care for transgender children was published in Britain, which largely proved the skeptics right. This is a fundamental breakthrough.
