This year marks the third year of the Sculptures in the Streets exhibition, and it has been a hot topic since the first year. The first year revolved mainly around the bronze statue of a young man in shorts watching a mobile phone, which became the target of vandals on more than one occasion. which was also dominated by the placed kayak. And even this year, the work in this place is causing a stir. A grain thresher is located there.

“What kind of work is this? They took it out of the barn from grandpa, dusted it off, and it’s a masterpiece that has to be displayed by the main road in town? I really don’t like this. Every year, they build something here that only arouses ridicule among people,” Pavlína Topinková assessed indignantly.

But there are also people who appreciate the works. “It definitely adds variety to the space and the fact that it sparks discussion is certainly only good, at least people have something to talk about. It doesn’t irritate me at all, I like to look at it, on the contrary, I’m interested in what the artists come up with,” said Radek Fořt.

In addition to Rybníčki, the works can be seen in Hostašové Sady, Pod Valy, Plánická Street and other places. One has already been moved from the square. It was a block with wires sticking out of it, which many described as dangerous in such a busy area.

The exhibition Sculptures in the Streets is organized by Galerie Klatovy/Klenová in cooperation with the city of Klatovy. It is a festival of contemporary art in the public space of the city. “As part of the third continuation of the festival, the works of selected graduates of the sculpture studio of the Academy of Fine Arts in Prague Socha II, led in the years 1995-2016 by the sculptor Professor Jindřich Zeithaml, will be presented. The studio was focused on abstract sculpture, in the spirit of the concept of sculpture in the original sense of the word, i.e. as expression through matter, forms and their mutual cooperation. Here, the traditional sculptural approach is conceived as a still valid platform, which can be relied upon at any time during experimental research,” described the director of Galerie Klatovy/Klenová, Hana Kristová.

The works will be installed in eleven places in the city center during the six-month duration of the exhibition. The opening will take place on May 11 from 3 p.m. in Hostašové sady.

The authors of the sculptures in the streets are Pavel Hošek, Monika Immrová, Zuzana Kačerová, Kryštof Kaplan, Jiří Kobr, Jakub Lipavský, Luděk Míšek, Petra Pešková, Lucie Píštělková, Lucie Procházková and Jindřich Zeithamml.
