Romania – Czech Republic 31:30, Acceptable loss. The handball players bring a playable result to the home rematch in the fight for the World Cup

--

The Czechs started the match struggling in attack. They waited almost six minutes for a goal, before Tomáš Piroch decided to make a bold pass and equalized at 1:1. The clutch of Polish Plock, who is coached by the Spanish coach of the national team Xavier Sabate, immediately added two more nice hits, and thanks to the good work of the Czech defense, the guests led 5:3 and then 6:4.

But then the offensive got stuck again and Romania turned around with three goals in a row. In addition, Jakub Hrstka did not convert the seven, he also failed from the stop, and thus the Balkan juice gradually built up a lead. They didn’t do well in defense either, where Sabate’s charges often left goalkeeper Tomáš Mrkva completely helpless. The loss of the representatives thus increased to 11:15 at halftime.

The Czech handball players did not even enter the second half. Their convulsive performance continued, on the contrary, the home team got into the game and built up a significant lead of 22:15. After that, the national team finally picked up a bit. The banner in the offensive was still held by the excellent Piroch, who scored nine goals from nine shots, joined by the gunner Matej Klíma.

The attack from the second wave after the received goals also came out well and the Czech deficit gradually decreased. In addition, when Tomáš Mrkva hit an empty net in the 58th minute after an inaccurate shot by an opponent, as the Romanians took a risk playing without a goalkeeper, the score was tied at 30:30.

However, the home team responded with a beautiful cross to Grigoras and failed to respond in the subsequent attacks, as Reichl did not convert the stop and Piroch fired only after the passivity whistle. However, even a 30:31 defeat is a small victory in view of the development of the game.

Until the rematch in Brno’s Winning Group arena, everything is completely open. The duel, which will decide whether the Czech handball players will watch the World Championship after ten years, will take place on Sunday from 16:30. The championship, for which 32 teams qualify, takes place next January in Croatia, Norway and Denmark.
