The transport company of the capital city in Prague has clearly established internal standards regarding photography and the publication of records on its premises. These standards are included in the DPP Code of Ethics, DPP Work Rules and other internal company regulations.

If you have ever found yourself in the premises of the Transport Company hl. city of Prague (DPP) and you wanted to take some photos, you might have been surprised by the sign “No photography”. The DPP has clearly established rules regarding what and where you can photograph.

Why can’t they take pictures everywhere?

In accordance with internal rules, recording (photographing, video recording and audio recording) and their publication is prohibited in any DPP premises. This prohibition is justified by the protection of commercially sensitive and sometimes proprietary information. There are therefore signs warning that photography is prohibited in visible places in the area, including, for example, the Tram Repair Shop.

External visitors are informed of this ban immediately upon entering the premises. In addition, during the entire stay, they are accompanied by a DPP employee who is responsible for ensuring compliance with all internal rules.

Preventive measures and resolution of violations

DPP places great emphasis on prevention. “by constant information, warning and regular training of employees. The DPP has a system set up for this, as to which groups of employees should familiarize themselves with the relevant standards,” says Daniel Šabík, Head of the Communications Department.

In the event of a violation of the rules, the procedure is carried out according to internal standards, where the first step is a personal interview and instruction of the employee. In the case of repeated faulty behavior, additional tools are available to resolve the situation, as determined by internal standards.

Who can take photos?

Despite these rules, there are exceptions for photography on DPP campuses. For example, employees from the Communication or Marketing and Business department, as well as employees performing control activities, project managers for the purpose of photo documentation of various projects can take photos. “Photography is allowed, but only to a limited extent, also some external entities that, for example, participate in solving joint projects with DPP or technical problems,” concludes Šabík.

All other photos found on various fan sites seem to be taken illegally. The website prazsketramvaje.cz probably also reacted to this, which stopped publishing new photos from the central workshops from January 2024.
