In the sports complex 31. Primary school in Pilsen matches were held memorial of Karel Šulec in categories younger pupils and mini-pupils. The ceremonial announcement on Monday, May 6, 2024 was also attended by the Deputy Mayor of the City of Pilsen for Education and Tourism Lucie Kantorová and councilor for the area of ​​support for sports, youth and physical education Tomas Moravek.

“I am glad that the 31st elementary school is cooperating with the sports club DHC Plzeň and together they are organizing one of the largest handball tournaments in the Czech Republic,” she said Lucie Kantorová.

Karel Šulec’s memorial is being held in Pilsen this year for the thirty-first time. It is attended by 53 teams, which represents approx. 800 young athletes plus their coaching staff from all over the country. On May 4th to 6th, matches were held in the categories of younger pupils and mini-pupils. On Saturday, May 11, there will still be matches in the 4 + 1 minihandball categories.

The organizer of the tournament is DHC Plzeň with the great commitment of Mr. and Mrs. Šmrho. Sports competitions are held in the area of ​​the 31st ZŠ Plzeň, where the young athletes and their companions have facilities.

In the category of younger pupils, HC Milevsko won, home team DHC Plzeň was second, TJ Sokol Velké Meziříčí finished third. In the mini 6 + 1 category, HC Milevsko won again, Sokol Písek was second and TJ Sokol Velké Meziříčí was third again.

Karel Šulc together with Jiří Císler were the founders of girls’ handball in the Lochotín housing estate. They started with one team of teenage girls, which separated from Pilsen Slávia. Gradually the club grew to its current form. In 2018, he became the first member of the DHC Plzeň Hall of Fame.
