“We thoroughly investigated the entire event and informed two persons of the suspicion of committing the offense of founding, supporting and promoting a movement aimed at suppressing human rights and freedoms and the offense of disorderly conduct committed as an accomplice. An abbreviated preliminary proceeding is being conducted in the case,” said police spokeswoman Michaela Raindlová on Thursday, May 9.

The police recorded the passing of a flag with a Nazi symbol at the Freedom Celebration

Originally POLICE examined the event as an expression of sympathy for the movement aimed at suppressing human rights and freedoms, for which the rate is up to three years, but now the couple is suspected of a misdemeanor with a maximum rate of two years higher.

The police began to deal with the case right after the end of the event, when they caught a video on social networks where the driver of one of the cars, when he approaches the place where the veterans and their descendants are, hands the other person in the vehicle a flag with a Nazi symbol. A woman with a child on her lap with a flag waves and returns it to the driver.

The editors of Deník know the name of the driver, who is from Prachatic, and tried to contact him, but he did not respond to the request for a statement.

His actions anyway, it pissed off the other convoy participants. “The incident is a complete degradation of the celebrations as such. Waving such a flag in front of the descendants of Americans who liberated Pilsen, is incredibly stupid,” said Václav Vostradovský, for example, the chairman of the Šumava Military History Club Gabreta. “However, the festivities went very well, meeting the people there was touching, and this actually spoiled them all,” he added.

The Nazi flag ruined our efforts, Freedom Convoy participants are angry

Martin Dlouhý, chairman of the Pilsen Military Car Club, reacted similarly. “I can’t imagine what kind of people these could be. This falls on all of us, we’ve been building something here for thirty years and then someone like that comes along. In addition, it does not belong to us at all, because the participant of the convoy does not have to be a member of any club. The city just registers him and he gets an entry card to Sukova Street, where the convoy lines up,” he said in response to the incident.

According to him, consideration should also be given to tightening the selection of participants and consider, for example, participation only for registered clubs.
