Philharmonic in the 2024/2025 season

Symphonic cycle of the chief conductor
The main orchestra series “A” will offer Thursday concerts dedicated mainly to the greats of classical music. Listeners can look forward to a varied dramaturgy from Mozart and Beethoven to works of early and mature romanticism. The offer of soloists will also be varied, the listeners can expect concerts for one, three and four solo instruments. The conductor of all four concerts in this series is MFO chief conductor Zsolt Hamar: “At our concerts, of course, proven works will be performed not only by key Czech greats, but also by young Czech authors who prove that the flower of Czech music is not an annual plant, but a permanent, timeless and eternal value.” This series also includes one bonus concert, at which the orchestra will present Czech and world premieres by contemporary domestic composers.

Piano recitals
A novelty of the 79th concert season is the concert series R – piano recitals. Five intimate evenings dominated by the piano, an instrument of a wide range of colors and dynamics, will offer the best of the extensive solo piano literature, which is often contrasted with large concerts with orchestral accompaniment. You can look forward to the greats such as Chopin, Schumann and Beethoven, but also to interesting transcriptions and arrangements. For example, Matyáš Novák, Lukáš Klánský or Karel Košárek will perform as soloists.

The dramaturg’s symphonic cycle
The Friday concerts in series D (the dramaturg’s symphonic cycle) will offer a repertoire in which two worlds meet – tradition and progress. Mostly 20th century compositions full of extraordinary musical surprises will be heard, works inspired by poetry, visual arts and the distant past. Listeners can look forward to Béla Bartók’s spectacular Concerto for Orchestra, Claude Debussy’s impressive Nocturne or Sergei Prokofiev’s spectacular Fifth Symphony.

Patriot” – concerts for Olomouc
The quarterly P series with the subtitle “Patriot” traditionally builds on connections with Olomouc – concrete, distant, or even symbolic. Performers who have found their home in Olomouc or who like to return to the beautiful metropolis of Haná will perform. The programs are mainly based on the popular, traditional repertoire, so in the 79th season three extraordinary concerts are held within this series. With the best of Czech music, the Philharmonic will celebrate the national holiday on October 28, play a traditional New Year’s concert on January 1, and celebrate Easter as the most important Christian holiday on Maundy Thursday.

Crossover” – multi-genre concerts
Multi-genre concerts will offer an attractive combination of the sound of a classical orchestra with other musical genres, which is not only a long-term trend, but also a welcome and highly sought-after added value of the musical experience. In the new season, the Moravian Philharmonic once again raises the imaginary bar of the attractiveness of names and programs higher and offers its listeners five unique concerts that have not yet taken place in Olomouc. Listeners can look forward to The Little Prince with Jan Cina, lullabies by Tomáš Klus or film music or the top Cello Republic ensemble.

Concert series K – chamber concerts
Chamber concerts will continue in the second season in the attractive middle of the newly reconstructed Red Church. The chamber orchestra, composed of players from the Moravian Philharmonic, will be joined at the four concerts by leading violin, viola, cello and French horn players, who will also take on the role of artistic leaders, i.e. conductors of the given concert. “We are one of the few Czech philharmonics that stage chamber concerts with chamber ensembles made up of our own players from the orchestra. It is always a challenge for us, but at the same time it testifies to the high level of interpretation of the individual players, and thus of the orchestra as a whole.” says Patrik Sedlář, concertmaster of the Moravian Philharmonic in Olomouc, about the chamber series.

A classic within reach”
As part of long-term and systematic cooperation in the field of educational activities, the Moravian Philharmonic will also offer four concerts in the series “Classics within reach”. As part of the collaboration with HAMU in Prague and JAMU in Brno, the concerts will feature mainly graduates of conducting and instrumental disciplines, i.e. the youngest professionals in the field. The concerts are also open to the public for a nominal entrance fee, which makes them the most affordable classical music in Olomouc. The program mainly includes works by the classics – Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann and Liszt.

Sunday matinee
Traditional Sunday matinees are simply intended for parents and children to discover new worlds and horizons, sing together and enjoy the beautiful melodies of (not only) classical music. The cycle will offer a concert full of magic or a Christmas concert for Santa Claus.

Musical evenings for expectant parents
The NR concert series once again brings meditative, harmonious and relaxing musical evenings, which include accompanying words, subdued lighting and video projections. This concert series is intended especially for women at any stage of pregnancy and their accompanying persons, but also for mothers with children under the age of one year and all other listeners who seek relaxation associated with an intimate musical atmosphere.

Music meeting
Last season’s novelty in the field of education, workshops and music popularization were musical meetings in cooperation with the Olomouc City Library. In the new season, the Moravian Philharmonic will offer four of these projects with the aim of bringing the world of artists and music closer to the general public. Visitors always learn something about a specific instrument, listen to music samples and get to know the personal story of the artists. In the 79th season, visitors can learn about the journey a musician must take to become a member of the Philharmonic in the cello, drum or violin group, or what it’s like to be a conductor. Musical meetings are held on Tuesdays from 5 pm in the Olomouc City Library.
