Fluff is rioting against the high-speed line. The minister will also come to the conference

On Thursday morning, the reporter of the Ústecký deník went to Chlumec, directly to the places where the high-speed line will lead. People who enjoy rare peace in the county’s second-largest city take the idea hard and conflicted.

“I have enough information about it. The original route was supposed to lead somewhere else than between Chlumec and Stradov, but someone decided on a terminal in Ústí,” old resident František Susa told the Ústecké denik.

“It will affect a lot of people in Chlumec and Stradov, where many of them have built a house, they have loans for it, and now they are faced with the finished product. I don’t even know if anyone even consulted with them,” he continued.

Locals are also afraid of construction, which, according to the Railway Administration, will start as early as 2030, i.e. in six years. “It will interfere with nature, destroy the stream, and there will be a lot of workers who will spend their time in Chlumec in a god-awful way,” added Susa.

Josef Černý, another “chump” claims that such a track does not apply to him due to his advanced age. “Yeah, I know about her, but I’m completely calm. If I compare it with how fast the highway is being built in our country, I will definitely not live to see the high-speed line,” he added his opinion.

They are also closely monitoring the situation at the Chlumec town hall. Mayor Veronika Srnková already told the Ústeck daily newspaper a month ago that Chlumec is ready to defend itself with all means. “It can only destroy the whole city,” she asserted resolutely, saying that people move to the locality primarily for peace and tranquility.

The mayor gave another statement to Deník on Thursday. “I try to negotiate the best possible options. The city’s main request is to move the Krušnohorský tunnel as far as possible from populated areas so that it damages all our city districts as little as possible,” explained Srnková.

According to her, Chlumec understands the importance of the construction of the line on a pan-European level, but the procedure and method of planning has so far been very bad on the part of the Railway Administration.

“There is still only one official option on the route Ústí nad Labem – Dresden, and it is unacceptable for our city. It will be clear in June whether there will be any more favorable step on the part of the state. If we don’t reach an agreement, there will be a lawsuit,” the mayor revealed, adding that the conference on VRT will take place on June 6 in Chlumec with the participation of Transport Minister Martin Kupka.

The newspaper addressed the issue to the Railway Administration, which is one of the main initiators of the high-speed line.

“We perceive the situation in Chlumec and we are not indifferent to what someone might think. We still have a lot of work ahead of us and we hope that the parties will agree on some solution,” said the representative of the organization, Pavel Hruška, adding that the Railway Administration is not the only company that has an influence on VRT.

When asked about the planned start of construction in 2030, Hruška said that there are a number of authorities and individual permit procedures that can delay everything. “However, it is necessary to realize that the Czech Republic is losing a huge amount of money and potential with which the high-speed line abounds,” he added.

The situation in Chlumec may thus be one of those that will at least delay the entire project in its infancy. People in their place of residence are simply afraid of the so-called “corruption”.

“I moved here from Ústí precisely because of peace, and now I’m supposed to literally have a high-speed track right behind my house? A lot of us will want to move again,” added Chlumce resident Alena, who lives not far from where the track will lead.

In Ústí nad Labem, thanks to the high-speed railway, a new two-storey railway station will be built, in the current railway premises behind the former bus station. The terminal will include long-distance lines to Dresden, Berlin or Liberec, regional lines to Děčín, Kadana or Most, and city lines to Velké Březno or Lake Milada. The station will thus serve as a transit hub for all directions.
