The narrowing, which will last from May 11 to August 31, will create the necessary space for the construction of a noise barrier. “Traffic will run in one lane for each direction in a one-plus-one mode,” said Radek Mátl, director general of the Directorate of Roads and Highways (ŘSD).

The Eurovia company is in charge of the construction of the 7.5-kilometer highway connection between the Hanác metropolis and Přerov. The new highway section will be operational in 2025.

“This is the first part of the highway connection between Olomouc and Přerov, which will replace the I/55 road, which is already insufficient in capacity. The new two-way road will fundamentally increase the safety and flow of traffic in the area. Thanks to the highway, the living conditions of the inhabitants of the village of Krčmaň will also significantly improve, from which all transit traffic will be diverted thanks to the highway,” noted Mátl earlier.

“Part of the construction is also the two-sided Majetín rest stop, which, however, will only be put into operation together with the highway section from Kokor to Přerov,” pointed out the director of the ŘSD.

When completed, the D55 will form an important motorway network route. “It will connect the residential areas of central, southeastern and southern Moravia. At the same time, it will replace the existing road I/55, the capacity of which is already insufficient and does not meet the current intensities of traffic,” said Mátl.

The D55 will lead from Olomouc past Přerov, Hulín and Otrokovice, where it will also be connected to Zlín via the D49 highway. “Through sections around Uherské Hradiště, Bzenc and Hodonín, the D55 will be connected to the D2 highway near Břeclav in the future. There are currently 19 kilometers in operation, thirty kilometers under construction. After completion, the total length of the D55 highway will be 100 kilometers,” the director described.

Eurovia will build a highway between Olomouc and Kokory for less than two billion without VAT.
