There was a traffic accident in Jeseník on Bezručova Street when a senior citizen driving a car overlooked a woman with a dog at a pedestrian crossing and hit her. A pedestrian and a dog were injured. An air ambulance service helicopter flew for the woman.

“According to the information found, an elderly driver driving from the direction of the village of Česká Ves should have stopped before the pedestrian crossing and given way to two pedestrians and a cyclist,” said police spokeswoman Ivana Skoupilová. After they left the crossing, the driver drove off, but missed the 44-year-old pedestrian with her dog. He ran over the woman and the animal with the right side of the car.

As soon as the driver heard the bang, he stopped the car and saw a person on the road in the rearview mirror. “The woman suffered an injury with which she was airlifted to the Olomouc University Hospital. A dog was also injured in the accident and was treated by a veterinarian.” spokeswoman Skoupilová added.

The presence of alcohol was ruled out by the police on the spot with a breath test. They are now dealing with the incident as a suspected offense of causing bodily harm due to negligence. The senior citizen faces up to one year in prison or a ban on activities.
