At the end of April, 16,375 people were unemployed in the Olomouc region, which represents 3.9 percent of the working population. Compared to March, the share of unemployed fell by 0.2 percentage points.

The positive development was mainly due to the creation of new seasonal job opportunities and also because part of the self-employed who came to register at the employment office in the winter months are returning to business activities.

The most seasonal job opportunities are in the Jeseník mountain district.

“A significant proportion of job opportunities arise in the spring months and disappear with the arrival of winter. These are mainly jobs in forestry, agriculture, extraction of raw materials, spas and tourism. It is therefore not surprising that in April this district showed the third highest percentage decrease in unemployment among all 77 districts in the Czech Republic,” stated the director of the regional branch in Olomouc, Vlastimil Přidal.

A further drop in unemployment is expected

During April, a total of 2,847 applicants left the records of the employment office in the Olomouc region, which is 400 more than in March. At the end of April, the unemployed could choose from a total of 8,258 available jobs. There are currently an average of two applicants for one position in the region.
