According to CZSO data, 1,570,172 travelers arrived in Prague in the first three months of the year, a full quarter of which are domestic guests. The largest number of foreign tourists traditionally came from Germany (207,257 visitors), Great Britain (102,138) or Italy (97,114). There was also an increase in the number of visitors from Asia, 141,639 of whom have already traveled to the metropolis since January this year, which is 35 percent more than in the same period in 2023. In the first months of the year, hotel occupancy also increased, most in the luxury segment, and by almost a third.

In the first quarter of the year, also thanks to Easter, which this year fell at the end of March, more than 1.5 million visitors came to Prague, which is 17 percent more than in the same period in 2023. According to data from the CZSO, mainly visitors from the Czech Republic came to the metropolis ( 372,312 visitors, year-on-year + 7 percent), abroad, mainly tourists from Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Slovakia or the USA.

“I am very happy that we are developing sustainable tourism, strategically targeting creditworthy clientele and increasing client service. Our efforts are also reflected in the data, a different group of tourists are heading to Prague who, moreover, are not afraid to spend in the metropolis,” said Deputy Mayor for Culture and Tourism Jiří Pospíšil (TOP 09).

In addition to the increase in the number of travelers from Europe, there is also an increase in the number of travelers from distant markets such as the United States (a total of 55,300 visitors, a year-on-year increase of 22 percent) or Asia (141,639 visitors). Tourists from Asia alone saw a thirty-five percent increase compared to the same period of 2023. Most visitors came from the Republic of Korea (29,152, +33 percent), Taiwan (16,864, +69 percent) or China (16,042, +115 percent).

Among the European countries, the number of visitors from Greece (16,109, year-on-year + 72 percent) and Spain (47,174, year-on-year + 61 percent) increased the most.

According to the data of the STR report, there was also an increase in the occupancy of Prague hotels, when from January to March the occupancy was around 60 percent. Occupancy increased most significantly in more expensive hotels, by up to a third.

“Thanks to mutual cooperation within the Touchpoint platform, we and partners such as Prague Airport and the CzechTourism agency succeed in renewing air connections with distant markets and thus motivating travelers to visit the metropolis. This can be seen in the current figures, when the number of visitors from distant markets, such as America or Asia, has increased,” said Jana Adamcová, vice-chairwoman of the board of Prague City Tourism.
