Shooting at the FF UK: Prague will pay up to 450,000 to the survivors… But there is a catch!

This was brought to the attention of the server Lidovky.cz, according to which applicants for money, i.e. grieving survivors of victims of the mass murderer’s rampage, must to fill in a number of delicate details. The form contains questions about their assets – for example, whether they have a car, apartment, cottage, whether they are in debt, have any loans, but also what their income is. According to the server, this outraged some of the parents of the murdered students.

According to Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda (ODS), this is an established obligation that results from the founding charter of the Bezpečná Praha Foundation. “But we try to make it as simple and feasible for applicants as possible. Therefore, it is enough to fill out an affidavit, which does not need to be substantiated. So far, the fund has worked well this way. Let’s wait and see how it turns out with the requests of the survivors of the shooting victims at the Faculty of Philosophy and in Klánovice,” he told tn.cz.

The Charles University Foundation also provides financial assistance to survivors, but it does not require any such information. “Statement of assets or the amount of income was not a condition for approval of support. Filling in the form was not necessary for any group of recipients of financial support. We try to respect the individual situation of everyone we communicate with,” said Charles University spokeswoman Petra Klusáková.

During the shooting at the faculty in the center of Prague last year on December 21, 14 people, including students and teachers, lost their lives. After the attack, the perpetrator, who according to the police was a student of the faculty, committed suicide. He also murdered in Klánovické les, where he shot a father and his baby in cold blood, and in Hostoun in Central Bohemia. There, in the house where he lived with his family, he killed his father.
