On Wednesday afternoon, police officers measured the speed in Doudlevecká street, where a maximum of fifty is allowed. Around five o’clock a BMW whizzed past them. The radar showed the police a speed of 85 kilometers per hour.

“The officers immediately went after the vehicle and signaled the driver to stop with the help of warning and light equipment,” said police spokeswoman Jana Pužmanová.

But the 24-year-old driver completely ignored them and started to drive away. At the intersection of Samaritská and Zborovská streets, he lost control and the car skidded. The BMW swerved in the opposite direction, where it collided with an oncoming Skoda Octavia, hit the curb and overturned on its roof.

The officers immediately stopped and one of them immediately rushed to the aid of the accident participants, while ascertaining whether there were any injuries. In the meantime, the other called the components of the integrated rescue system and secured the crash site until the arrival of the police.

“The reason why the man was driving away soon became clear. By November 2025, all motor vehicles will be banned from driving,” Pužmanová pointed out. She added that there were no injuries in the collision. In addition to the thirty-nine-year-old driver, there was also a woman and a three-year-old child sitting in the Octavia.

Both drivers had negative breath tests and tests for narcotic and psychotropic substances. The damage is preliminarily estimated at half a million crowns. The traffic police are still investigating the accident.
