The Czech Republic handed Ukraine the first flight simulator for training F-16 fighter pilots. The commander of the Ukrainian Air Force, Mykola Oleschuk, announced this on Telegram. The first real machines should arrive in Ukraine from Western countries in the coming months.
The delivered simulator is now being tested, the Ukrainian Air Force announced. Subsequently, the remaining parts of the trainer will be installed, including the cabin, which will ensure training in conditions that best correspond to reality.
Western-made fighter jets are still among the main military equipment and equipment that Ukraine requests from its allies in defense against Russian invasion forces. Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway and Belgium have previously promised to send about 45 fighter jets to Ukraine – enough for three small squadrons. Other countries will provide pilot training or simulators.
However, it is not yet clear how many and how quickly Ukraine will manage to train pilots and members of the auxiliary ground crew, which is responsible for the maintenance and operation of the aircraft. In March, the Netherlands promised to deliver the first aircraft during the summer, Denmark talked about the end of the spring.
