In the Olomouc zoo, visitors have been able to meet Manchurian leopards for many years, of which the last approximately 100 individuals live in the wild, in the untouched forests of the Far East. In contrast, the Chinese leopard, which was previously encountered in the north of its range, has a significantly darker orange-brick coloration and large rosettes.

It lives only in the territory of China, where it mainly inhabits mountainous areas, dense forests, but can also occur in steppes and semi-deserts. The last few hundred individuals are roaming in the wild. And just two Chinese leopards (sibling pair) arrived yesterday in the late afternoon from the Liberec Zoo.

They are twins who will soon be two years old. Visitors will be able to see them for the first time in the outdoor enclosure from next week. They are only on loan to the Olomouc Zoo and will remain here until a new home is chosen for them based on the decision of the coordinator and at the same time until the arrival of other Manchurian leopards at the Olomouc Zoo.” zoologist Jitka Vokurková reports.

The Olomouc Zoo provided temporary shelter to animals from the Liberec Zoo as part of the long-term cooperation of zoos associated in the Union of Czech and Slovak Zoological Gardens (UCSZOO).
