Unemployment in the region has fallen. In Hradec, it is lower than the national average

--

As of April 30, the Labor Office (ÚP) registered a total of 12,039 job seekers in the Hradec Králové region, which is 369 less than in March 2024, the share of unemployed people thus decreased to 3.2 percent month-on-month in April. Unemployment fell month-on-month in all districts, and the regional average is significantly below the national average. Last year, however, the situation was better, as there were 748 more people out of work in April this year than in April 2023.

According to the ÚP, the situation on the labor market currently corresponds to the time of year when seasonal work is already in full swing. “Just like last month, seasonal work was the determining factor for the drop in unemployment. On the contrary, the year-on-year comparison shows a worsening of fundamental influences, i.e. the long-term condition of the main employers. But it’s good that the Labor Office manages to provide employment for more and more people, also thanks to our active approach to the labor market,” says Martin Horák, director of the regional branch of the Labor Office in Hradec Králové.

The lowest was in the district of Rychnov nad Kněžnou (2.1%), followed by Jičín (2.2%) and Hradec Králové (3.1%). Conversely, Trutnov (3.9%) and Náchod (4.0%) were above the national average

2,163 job applicants left the registry in April (registration terminated, applicants eliminated). It was 201 more than in the previous month and 37 less than in April 2023. Of these, 1,679 people started work in the monitored month, of which 1,360 job seekers were placed through the Labor Office.

At the end of the month, a total of 6,505 women, which is 54 percent of the total number of applicants, were registered at the Regional Branch of the ÚP CR in Hradec Králové, and 1,941 persons with disabilities were registered (16.1 percent of the total number of applicants). At the end of April 2024, 664 school graduates of all levels of education and minors were registered, which was 143 more people compared to April 2023, and they made up 5.5 percent of the total number of applicants.

Unemployment support was received by 4,273 job seekers, which is 35.5 percent of all registered applicants.

As of April 30, the region registered a total of 10,316 job vacancies. This is 256 fewer places than in March 2024 and 1,130 fewer than at the end of April 2023. There were an average of 1.2 applicants per vacant job, the most in the districts of Trutnov (2.2) and Náchod (2.1). Of the total number of vacancies reported, 468 were suitable for persons with disabilities (PWDs), 4.1 PWDs per vacancy. 1,936 job vacancies for graduates and young people were registered, 0.34 applicants of this category accounted for one vacancy. 7,141 positions are vacancies suitable for foreigners as well.

Job seekers are often interested in driving and professional licenses, retraining in IT and accounting. Women on maternity and parental leave were also more interested in retraining.

“We can trace the growing trend of interest in retraining on the part of mothers on maternity and parental leave, who are interested in returning to the labor market and at the same time using the time they spend at home. It seems that they have a lot to offer employers, because their job application is also gradually improving, and at the same time, employers are more responsive to their needs and more often offer shorter working hours, flexible working hours or the option of a home office,” adds director Horák.

At the end of April 2024, the region registered 523 applicants and 92 job seekers from among citizens of Ukraine with temporary protection, which is 4.3 percent of the total number of job applicants. In April 2024, 14 of them started Czech language retraining for foreigners, and a total of 239 citizens of Ukraine successfully completed this retraining. From the outbreak of the conflict until the end of April 2024, 19,189 people from Ukraine with temporary protection have already found work in the Hradec Králové Region. Some people have already returned home or left their jobs, currently at the end of April 2024 there were 4,797 people working in the region.
