At the end of last week around ten o’clock in the evening, the policemen were going to check a Škoda van in the village of Písečná during their usual patrol duty. Instead of obeying the call to stop, the driver pressed the gas pedal to the floor. He crossed the road, completed part of the journey in the opposite direction. Only thanks to the fact that no one was driving against him, the tragedy did not occur.
The driver quickly and frantically drove to Ústí nad Orlicí, fifteen kilometers away, where he ended up in a dead-end street from which there was no escape. He jumped out of the car with the intention of hiding in the urban area. After a while, the police found the driver a few tens of meters from the abandoned car. He was hiding on the roof of one of the family houses.
He didn’t know what to do
“After the call, the man got off the roof and the police secured him. When they asked why he was running away from them, he replied that he didn’t know what to do,” said police spokeswoman Dita Holečková.

The reason why the man started a risky chase with the police soon became clear. “Although the breath test for alcohol was negative, the driver refused a drug test and a medical examination connected with the collection of biological material,” explained Holečková.
In addition, the police found out that the man is banned from driving motor vehicles until October next year. “And to make matters worse, when he was running away from the vehicle, he did not secure it properly, and it crashed into another parked car,” added Holečková. Miraculously, the chase went well and without injury.
“Police officers have initiated criminal proceedings against the driver on suspicion of obstructing the execution of an official decision. The man faces up to two years in prison,” the spokeswoman added.
