Sad news came from the Dakar Rally. Tuesday’s death of an Italian fan was caused by a collision with Aleš Lopraise’s truck. The pilot of the Praga confirmed this on Wednesday morning, saying that he was an unwitting participant in the accident. At the same time, he published a video with footage of the collision on Facebook.

“It will be with me in life. I am terribly sorry,” said Loprais.
At first, the information was austere, until later it became clear what had happened. The Czech pilot did not notice the collision at all. The 69-year-old fan from Italy was behind a dune hidden from the pilot’s view at the time of the accident.
He succumbed to his injuries while being transported to the hospital by rescue helicopter.
“Unfortunately, he found a place under the dune and we didn’t notice him. With this, I would like to express my condolences to his family and loved ones,” said the leading driver of the truck category.

The fatal accident coincidentally happened on Loprais’ 43rd birthday.
According to information from the organizers, the spectator felt nauseous a few hours after the accident and suffered a heart attack during transport to the hospital.
Loprais only found out about everything in the bivouac when he was about to go to sleep. “Human life was extinguished and de facto by my doing, because I turned the wheel. But I have to say that I didn’t know about it at all. Neither did anyone in the crew. We have onboard and external videos to prove it. However, it does not change the fact that human life has been extinguished,” he said Ales Loprais in a sad voice.
