Faith is gone, congratulations to Leverkusen! The surrendered Bayern coach gave up the fight for the title

--

Bayern lost the expected weekend Der Klassiker against Borussia Dortmund 0:2. Just a few hours earlier, the current leader of the table from Leverkusen beat Hoffenheim 2:1 thanks to a goal from the Czech representative Patrik Schick in the set-up.

And Tuchel, in a post-match interview in front of the Sky Germany cameras, began to calculate. “How many points are we losing? Thirteen? No no no. It’s quite clear. After today, we can’t talk about the title at all,” the Bayern coach lamented and immediately sent his congratulations to Leverkusen.

There are seven rounds left until the end of the Bundesliga, Bayern remains second in the table even after the loss and still has a respectable 21 points.

The fight for the league trophy could theoretically still get messy.

However, Tuchel did not show himself as a dreamer, but as a pure pragmatist. Leverkusen, with three Czech representatives on the roster, did not lose 39 competitive matches in a row. In addition, the fact that the successful coach Xabi Alonso will not leave the bench after the season can serve as a boost for Bayer.

Only a colossal failure at the end of the season will deprive his team of the premiership in the history of the top competition.

At the same time, Leverkusen will break the string of the giant from Munich, which has ruled the Bundesliga since the spring of 2012. The Athletic server pointed out that it was probably only a matter of time before the unprecedented dominance collapsed. Bayern’s total points in the last Bundesliga season were constantly falling, to which the club’s management did not respond adequately.

82 points in 2020. 78 points in 2021. 77 points last year, when Bayern were only awarded the title by an unprecedented collapse of Dortmund in the final round in Mainz.

Tuchel did not stop Munich’s slump in the current season. Leipzig coached Bayern O:3 in the German Super Cup. In November, Tuchel’s boys sensationally crashed out of the German Cup with third division Saabrücken. Bayern’s further league failures seem to have irreversibly lost the title.

That is also why a month ago the 50-year-old Tuchel announced that he would quit Bayern after the season. They still don’t have to leave the big Bavarian club without a trophy after this season. The German champions have reached the quarter-finals of the Champions League, where Arsenal await them.

It remains a mystery, however, whether the resigned coach will even be able to make sense of the team.
