“From Monday night to Monday 4:00 p.m., we had forty-two wind-related departures. Thirty-four times we went out to fallen trees and to trees threatening to fall. In six cases, the roof was damaged. Firefighters also went to Kunovice to the loose tarpaulin on the truck’s trailer,” David Martinec, spokesman for the regional fire department, told Novinkám. At Bystřice pod Hostýnem in the Kroměříž Region, a strong wind uprooted a tree right on the railway.
Strong winds have been causing damage in the Zlín region since Thursday. “Even in the past days, it was mainly about fallen or dangerously bent trees,” noted Martinec. From Thursday to Saturday, firefighters in the region responded to thirteen incidents associated with strong winds. During Sunday, there were already twenty-two departures.
The wind also kept firefighters busy in other regions in the east of the country. For example, in the Moravian-Silesian Region, firefighters registered over fifteen weather-related events. In addition to fallen trees, in one case there were loose metal sheets on the roof of the house.
The wind also raged in the Olomouc Region. “In connection with the wind, we went to twenty-five events on Monday. In one case, a cyclist was injured when a tree fell on the bike path near Mladče. We provided first aid and handed it over to the Medical Rescue Service of the Olomouc Region. We removed the tree. We were also busy with fallen trees on the roads and damaged roofs,” said Lucie Balážová, the spokesperson for the fire department.
