Antonelli’s first test with an F1 car awaits. He drives a three-year-old car at the Red Bull Ring – F1sport.cz

The talented Italian Andrea Kimi Antonelli tries out an F1 car for the first time. In Austria, he will drive a Mercedes W12 from the 2021 season.

17-year-old Andrea Kimi Antonelli, who is regarded as one of the biggest junior talents today, will take part in his first test with an F1 car from 16 April.

As reported by Autosport in its article, a member of the Mercedes junior program will sit in the W12 car with which the German team raced in the 2021 season at the Austrian Red Bull Ring.

Antonelli, who dominated the FRECA series last year and is currently competing in the F2 championship, will thus test the previous generation F1 car, given that from this year, teams can also use single-seaters from 2022 in private tests, which correspond to the current rules.

Nevertheless, Mercedes is preparing more tests for the young Italian in the current season, so it can be expected that Antonelli will also try out the single-seater with the designation W13 from the year 2022.

Despite his age, the native of Bologna is already being linked with a seat in F1. There is even speculation that Antonelli could replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes after the season, who is leaving for Ferrari.
