The Americans report another resounding reinforcement, thirty-six-year-old defender Jeff Petry has accepted an invitation to the World Cup. He will start at the championship for the fourth time in his career and for the first time since 2014.

Seth Jones, Zach Werenski, Jake Sanderson, Luke Hughes, Alex Vlasic and now Jeff Petry. The USA’s defensive lines command respect in the upcoming World Cup.

Petry has been active in Detroit this year, contributing to the team’s productivity with three goals and twenty-one assists. Especially during his time in Montreal, he paid for one of the best defensemen in the NHL, regularly collecting over 40 points in the regular season and, for example, in 2021, he helped the Canadiens to advance to the Stanley Cup finals.

He played with the American national team at the World Championships in 2012, 2013 and 2014, bringing home one bronze medal. This year, the United States has even greater ambitions, and will arrive in Ostrava with an inflated selection. In addition to the defenders mentioned above, forwards Brady Tkachuk, Dylan Larkin, Trevor Zegras or Johnny Gaudreau will be part of the nomination.

In the group, the Americans will meet Sweden, Germany, Slovakia, France, newcomers from Poland, Kazakhstan and the last bronze medalists Latvia.
