The Olomouc City Hall has started to offer areas suitable for business through a new data portal. Investors and entrepreneurs can find plots using a map of Olomouc with marked locations where these plots are available. In the last issue of the town hall newspaper Olomoucké listy, the mayor’s deputy Tomáš Pejpek (ProOlomouc) stated this, according to which the new map will make it easier for entrepreneurs to find suitable areas for their plans.
The database now contains 27 areas suitable for business, which are spread mainly in the south-eastern part of Olomouc. A card is created for each location, which contains basic information, for example, about ownership, land use limits, technical infrastructure or transport accessibility. At the same time, the town hall offers an overview of brownfields in the territory of Olomouc, which include a former sugar factory in the local part of Holice, a former army complex near Klášterní Hradisk or a former barracks near the airport in Neředín.
The data portal has been operational since February this year and enabled the municipality to publish data more quickly. “The new portal brings more efficient data management and, above all, a better interface for interactive visualization of data sets. The user can now view and verify the content of the data set before the actual download, and all this directly in the browser,” Pejpek pointed out.
Municipalities publish open data on the basis of the Act on Free Access to Information. According to Pejpek, the published information is used by programmers, data analysts, journalists, designers and also, for example, students.
