Newey justified his departure from Red Bull by quoting Forrest Gump – F1sport.cz

Adrian Newey appeared in the Red Bull garage in Miami just a few tens of hours after announcing his departure from the team.

At first glance, nothing seems to have changed. Adrian Newey was seen in the Red Bull backfield in team gear. But something is different. Red Bull has confirmed that at the beginning of next year, Newey will leave Red Bull after twenty years. Until then, he will focus on the RB17 hypercar.

Newey is linked with Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton said it would be an “honour” to work with Newey.

“Honestly, it’s very nice of Lewis to say that, I’m very flattered,” Newey told Sky Sports F1. “But for now I’ll take a little break and see what happens next.”

“Formula 1 completely absorbs you. I’ve been working in it for a long time and 2021 was really challenging – the fight for the title with Mercedes and at the same time all the research and development of the RB18 car, which is the father of this generation of cars.”

“I think there came a point where, as Forrest Gump said, ‘I’m just feeling a little tired.'”

It was widely assumed that Newey quit due to power struggles within the team. But Christian Horner denies it.

“I’ve been thinking about it for a while to be honest,” Newey said, referring to this winter.

“I’m very lucky that I don’t have to work to live. I work because I enjoy it, and it’s good to withdraw and relax a bit, evaluate life and go on trips.”

“My wife Mandy and our dogs and I will probably go around France in a camper van or something. We’ll just enjoy life. And then maybe someday I’ll stand in the shower and say, ‘Well, this is going to be another adventure’. I have no plan now.’
