Canada kept two roster spots open on Thursday. There has been long speculation about the arrival of Sidney Crosby. One of the spots will eventually be filled by John Tavares. The winner of the 2014 Olympic Games last represented at the World Championships twelve years ago. At the time, he was still the captain of the New York Islanders.
WC in hockey 2024
The 87th World Ice Hockey Championship is taking place in the term 10-26 May 2024 in the Czech Republic, the tournament will be divided between the cities of Prague and Ostrava.
Tavares nodded to the offer to represent Canada after his Toronto team was eliminated in the first round of the NHL playoffs by Boston in seven games. He also represented the Maple Leafs at the World Cup in 2016, where he won a gold medal. Tavares has already shown himself in the Czech Republic in the past. In 2008, he represented at the World Junior Championship, which took place in Pardubice and Liberec. He also celebrated a gold medal there with Canada.
