  • It can shoot 4K video and can handle complete darkness
  • In China, it costs 1,100 crowns without tax

Xiaomi is expanding its range of smart home products with a new flagship in the field of security – a camera Xiaomi Smart Camera C700. It boasts 4K resolution, locally processed artificial intelligence and a wide range of connectivity options. At the same time, the price remained very low, but for now it is only offered in China.

Xiaomi Smart Camera C700 is the first indoor smart camera from Xiaomi with 8MP sensor, previous generations have a resolution of 5 MP. The sensor should also be larger, allowing for cleaner and more detailed resolution shots up to 4K (3840 × 2160) with HDR support. Even complete darkness is not a problem for her. Ten infrared LEDs with a wavelength of 940 nm provide clear image up to a distance of 10 meters. Of course, the diodes cannot be seen with the eye, so they will not disturb you.

The camera also has a pan/tilt function, which is achieved using two motors. These enable a horizontal angle of engagement of 360° and a vertical angle of 110°. If you place it skillfully, you are able to almost eliminate blind spots. And if you’re worried about your privacy when the camera is turned off, there’s no shortage here either physical cover. You can blind the lens either manually or through the application.

That being said, the camera also supports various AI functions, data is processed locally, thereby increasing privacy and security. It is worth noting the detection of baby crying, tracking of pets, detection of people and recognition of gestures, with which you can, for example, activate a voice call. The camera enables two-way audio communication, as it has an integrated microphone with noise reduction and a speaker. For data transfer and the camera uses the Mi Home Security security chip, you can insert a microSD card (up to 256 GB) or connect it to a NAS.

Last but not least, the C700 boasts decent connectivity thanks to Wi-Fi 6 and makes friends with other Xiaomi smart home devices through the ecosystem Xiaomi HyperOS Connect. This offers nice options for automation — for example, smart lights can be turned on when motion is detected.

The Xiaomi Smart Camera C700 is available in China for 349 yuan (approx. CZK 1,100 without tax) and will go on sale on May 10. There are no details on global availability yet, but the previous generation is sold here.
