An accident involving two trucks closed the D2 highway at the fourth kilometer in the direction of Brno at approximately 3:40 p.m. today. The police are diverting cars at exit 11 near Blučina and are going to divert them also at exit 25 near Hustopečia, said David Chaloupka, spokesman for the South Moravian police.

According to rescue spokeswoman Michaela Bothová, the driver of one truck is slightly injured. This is a repeat of Tuesday’s situation, when a van collided with a truck in practically the same place and the highway was impassable for two and a half hours.

Today, the police decided to divert further away from Brno because the situation on Tuesday was complicated and the road south of Brno was full of convoys of cars, said Chaloupka. In addition, the road near Blučina near the highway exit is partially closed and there is a shuttle bus over the bridge over the highway.

It is not yet clear whether the earlier diversion at Hustopeč will significantly improve the situation, as drivers will reach Brno via Židlochovice, Rajhrad and Vídeňská Street. However, this is also often congested in Brno, and trucks and other cars that want to turn onto the D1 highway stop in the right lane. The traffic situation in the south of Brno, where the trans-European roads meet, has been bad for a long time. Other problems with traffic flow arose last year when the Directorate of Roads and Highways began widening the D1 highway between kilometers 194 and 196 to six lanes. (ČTK)
