Updated: Near Prague’s Wenceslas Square today around noon, a cardboard on the roof caught fire, the Prague firefighters announced on the X social network. Thick smoke could be seen from afar. According to initial information, the fire is on construction site, said Kateřina Suchánská, spokeswoman for the Prague fire department, to ČTK. The intervention blocks traffic in Jindřišská Street.

Smoke is rising from the area behind the building on the corner of Wenceslas Square and Jindřišská Street, a ČTK reporter found out on the spot. “This is a cardboard fire on a new building with an area of ​​10 by 15 meters, at the moment it is not possible to set up a ladder, the intervention is carried out inside the building using breathing equipment,” the firemen said before 12.30.

“The fire is not spreading any further. It is a reinforced concrete roof where construction work was taking place. All persons have been evacuated from the building,” the fire department informed further at 12:35 p.m.

Jindřišská street is closed to traffic, not even trams will pass. The operation of six tram lines is limited, the transport company is diverting trams according to its website. (ČTK)
