The volleyball world was shocked by the terrible news of the death of young beach volleyball player Arina Mihajlinová. Only twenty-one years old, the Russian representative committed suicide by jumping from the roof of a sixteen-story building.

According to Russian media, Mikhailinova decided to commit a desperate act on the day she had an argument and broke up with her boyfriend. The tragedy occurred in front of the university dormitories of the Moscow Energy Institute, where the volleyball player was studying.

“They were talking, they broke up for some reason. Based on what Arina’s boyfriend had read or heard on the phone, he felt that an ambulance was needed. The ambulance came while she was still alive – they managed to get Arina out, she went down, stayed in the ambulance for a while. They just talked to her, gave her tea and that was it,” she said tragedy her trainer Natalija Urjadová.

After the ambulance left, the girl climbed onto the roof and jumped. She miraculously survived the fall, but succumbed to her injuries in hospital.

“It’s just terrible. We are in complete shock. It is known for certain that it was about suicide after a nervous breakdown,” confided her teammate Maria Chaletská.

“At first, of course, no one believed it. I can’t believe this happened to a young girl. I always thought she was positive, she was always smiling,” described Russian representative Olga Motrichová.

“Arina was kind, bright, cheerful and polite. As an athlete, she had big plans, she didn’t give up,” coach Urjadová described the volleyball player.
