“I’m kind of unhappy about it,” complained promoter Novotný, and it’s no wonder

Karine Silva vs Ariane Lipski – Silva wins by submission 3.65

Former KSW champion Ariane Lipski is a Brazilian fighter who has been in the UFC for just over 5 years. She has won six out of eleven fights over those five years, however, she is currently riding a 3-fight winning streak, with her last bout ending in a rather unexpected 2nd round submission win over Casey O’Neill. She is a classic Muay Thai fighter who applies constant pressure and packs hard punches in the clinch. Karine Silva is also a Brazilian fighter known for her precision wrestling and grappling. She has had three fights in the UFC so far and won all three by submission, with none of them going past the second round. In addition, all seventeen of their victories have come before the limit, which is a respectable record for a women’s flyweight.

Lipski does have a good takedown defense (79%), but Silva always manages to carve out a chance to take her opponents down and I don’t think Lipski can withstand a full fifteen minutes. Plus, Silva has excellent takedowns, transitions to top position quickly, and can land a submission in an instant. The bet that he will win by submission makes sense according to the statistics, but the odds of a clean victory of 1.64 are still not to be thrown away either.

Jhonata Diniz vs. Austen Lane – Diniz to win first round 1.93

Former Jacksonville Jaguars NFL star Lane (12-4) transitioned from American football to MMA in 2017 and was invited to the UFC after six straight wins. The 36-year-old had two bouts with Justin Tafa last year, with the first ending prematurely due to an accidental poke in the eye and Lane being knocked out in the second. Less than two years into his professional MMA career, Diniz is a perfect 6-0 so far, with all wins coming via first-round knockout. The former GLORY wrestler has excellent cardio, but most of all, he is a much more technical stand-up guy than Lane.

Diniz is constantly pushing forward and putting pressure on his opponent, quickly finding the right distance and threatening with his hard hooks. He alternates his punches and kicks very well, attacking the head, body and legs, which will be an effective strategy in this fight as well. Lane is very athletic, but with his “rogue” style, he leaves his hands too low and that cost him his match with Justin Tafa. Diniz will go hard from the start and will look to take advantage of every slight hesitation in his opponent to score another stoppage in the first round.
