Saharan dust will again affect the weather in the Czech Republic on Sunday. It will create clouds that the meteorological models did not anticipate. It can thus reduce the expected maximum temperatures, which should be around 25 degrees today. On https://twitter.com/CHMUCHMI/status/1784443530775011723 This was reported by the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ). Saharan dust has already reached the Czech Republic several times this year, and a state of smog was even declared in most of the territory because of it on the Easter weekend.

Today, dust reaches the Czech Republic from the south-west originally and from the north-western regions of the Sahara. “This time, it is located in high and medium clouds, which are significantly more extensive and powerful than the numerical models estimated,” said the ČHMÚ. For example, it should have been clear in the morning in Pilsen. “In reality, however, high and medium clouds are already partially covering the southwest,” noted the meteorologists.

The phenomenon occurs during storms over the Sahara, during which a large amount of sand is lifted into the air. Thanks to the force of the wind, sand dust can then reach Europe or neighboring African states.

This year, Saharan dust reached the Czech Republic already at the end of February. Between March 30 and April 2, the concentration of dust particles was so high that a smog situation was declared. Dust also affected the performance of solar power plants. Dust-covered panels could have limited performance for several days, according to experts. At the same time, mechanical cleaning of the equipment was also not a solution, as this could damage them. Only the rain helped.
