MMA | The heartthrob from the cage says goodbye to his career, meets the German star. The absolute best ending, he’s moved

--

Health problems. Broz has been struggling with these troubles for many years, the body has now said enough. The Czech fighter therefore decided to hang up his fighting gloves, but before that he will meet local star Christian Eckerlin in the Frankfurt Festhalle, which will make his next big dream come true. And if everything goes well, it is possible that this may not even be the final chapter of Brož’s career. The future will tell.

Do you take it as the very last duel of your career?

My health is absolutely broken, so I take this as the last match, saying that I would like to say goodbye to a match in Prague. But after this duel, I have to take a break for a year, and coming back after such a time is very difficult. Of course, I would like to continue, and I said it before that if I didn’t finish yet, I would stand for a rematch with Robert Pukač. But it is also possible that my health won’t let me go. We will see how it goes.

So are you ready to put your gloves in the middle of the cage and quit for good?

By wanting to say goodbye somewhere in the Czech Republic, probably not at all. I’ll leave it to the emotions. The point is that I drove this preparation really hard and on edge. Again, there were x things, but I managed it. I trained through the pain, but my body endured. I’m aware that it doesn’t go on like this forever. If I put the gloves down, I’d probably be done for good. I don’t like it when you put them down and then change your mind.

So you want to finish at home?

I would like to, but I don’t know if I can do it. To put it bluntly, I’m not as good a wrestler as, for example, Patrik Kincl. I make attractive matches, I leave everything out there, but I’m not a technician or anything like that. And getting to the main event in today’s competition in the Octagon is difficult. Everything built up so slowly and nicely that it is the absolute best ending I could have wished for. If I do a good match, I don’t think I have to say goodbye even in Prague. I’ll just come somewhere, say goodbye and thank you for everything.

You mentioned wanting to wrestle at Eden. Is it still an option in case of good health and result?

I don’t know what I would have to do to make it work. But I can’t do it 95% of the time. I’ll be happy if I even give it in a year or so. My health needs to be taken into account, because I have like eight things that I need to heal. There are lighter and heavier things, two of them are really quite bad. Then it won’t let a person get into the kind of training he would like. I will stand for a year and I don’t know if I will be able to do it and be at an adequate level. I’ll leave it slightly open.

Have any health problems accumulated even before this duel?

I probably won’t even say that, so as not to make it easy for the opponent, but there is enough. Thank God it didn’t get to the point where I would have a torn muscle. But there are some minor things. This time I could sort of prepare and do whatever I wanted.

A packed hall and a match with one of the best domestic fighters. Is this the ending you wanted?

Certainly. When I arrived in Frankfurt, people were talking about the Octagon in the sauna. They asked us too. Christian is a huge star here and I would never get a main card match with him again in my life. And to be honest, the main match is because of him. I’m glad I got the chance at all.

Is there something in your career that you did not fulfill and you regret it?

I’m happy with my career, which is another reason I can quit. I am happy for what I have accomplished. I’m not mad, but the only thing I’d like is a rematch with Rob Pukač. However, my health does not allow it at the moment. That’s the only thing.

Is it important to end your career with a win?

Not at all, absolutely not. I’m all about making a great match where I leave everything. It’s a dream to have a main event in the Octagon and I guess I kind of deserved it. Probably because of the performances and the heart I left there. We’ll see what my last dance looks like.

How challenging will it be for you to deal with being in “enemy territory”.

It doesn’t bother me, it motivates and helps me. Thanks to that, I am more relaxed and there is no such pressure. Of course I’m wrestling outside and it’s a big match, but the pressure is huge on Christian, who has to win at all costs. But what if it doesn’t work out? I’m used to these things from hockey. We played at home and away, and each time there were a lot of people. I like people and I don’t care if they support me or not.

The opponent mentioned that he knows you because of the fact that you put on a fight from the beginning to the end of the match. Is it still planned now?

Of course. Eckerlin is a very good wrestler in all respects. She is big and strong, compared to me she will have maybe 7-8 kg more. It will be difficult, but on the other hand, everything has its pros and cons. If it goes on for a long time, then the weight can limit him and he can leave physically. As always, I leave everything there. We have a strategy. But mostly only until the first hit, then it somehow disappears. (laughter)

How big of a motivation is it to silence an arena of fans charged with your triumph?

I would like to shock Frankfurt by winning, but at the same time I realize that it is very difficult. I have something ready, but the match will go one way or another. I wanted it and I got it. Such are the conditions.
