Twenty years ago, when the film Roman for Women appeared in cinemas, the hitherto unknown Slovak actress Zuzana Kanócz became a star. However, as quickly as it shone in the Czech Republic, it also died out. As a mother of three children, she preferred serial roles and engagements in her homeland.
Susan was born on November 21, 1979 into a Slovak-Hungarian family living in Košice. After graduating from grammar school, she applied to the University of Performing Arts in Bratislava, which she successfully graduated despite initial problems with an “oriental” accent.
“My parents wanted me to become a doctor, but I was not interested in this field at all. I didn’t have the brains or the grades for it,” laughs the forty-four-year-old actress.
Her first film experience came in 2002 in the film Cruel joys in the main role with Tána Pauhofová. Two years later, she successfully auditioned for the now iconic Czech comedy based on the original Michael Viewegh Novel for women.
Even though she showed not only her talent but also her body in it, offers from directors came slowly. Therefore, Zuzana bet on safety and became primarily a serial actress. Meanwhile, she was building a relationship with her colleague and famous handsome man Juraj Loj.
A cruel blow of fate
“We met in 2006 and I was immediately attracted to him. He was cheerful, easy-going, great fun and I loved that he was so enthusiastic about everything he set his mind to.” describing. “Plus, he smelled amazing to me. I had the feeling that this is what home smells like.”
Six years later, Zuzana learned that she was pregnant. But after five months, a cruel blow of fate came when she unexpectedly lost her child.

“I was angry with myself, I was angry and blamed myself for everything I did or didn’t do. I had to process all that. Just because I wanted another baby,” she admitted in an interview after We are.
Self-therapy eventually helped, and the actress gave birth to a healthy son eleven years ago. But at that moment she had to cope with the interruption of her career.
“It wasn’t easy. Imagine you’re thirty-five, you’re pushing yourself, your ego is excited, and suddenly everything is different. That’s when I found out that the attention people gave me was like a drug. It took me a while to process that it wasn’t my needs that came first, it was Lucas’s,” she said bluntly.
A full life
Today, he cannot imagine his life without a large family. She and her partner Juraj have a seven-year-old daughter Isabel and a five-year-old Leyla, with whom he tries to spend as much time as possible. But combining work and household duties is not easy.
“I take my son to school, my older daughter to kindergarten and the youngest to my grandparents. For that, we have clubs every day, like basketball or ballet. I have to keep an eye on that so I can move them to them in time,” Laughs.
The actress is currently filming other parts of the series Hospital. It is among the most watched in Slovakia.
