Police received a report of the incident on Thursday just before 2 p.m. The operations officer immediately sent several police patrols, including forensics officers, to the scene. “Through the on-site investigation, they discovered that the train set had started on its own, probably reaching a speed of around 100 km/h and traveling approximately 5 kilometers. Then, in the cadastre of the municipality of Klínec, the entire set of three cars completely derailed off the track,” said police spokeswoman Michaela Richterová.

The case was taken over by criminal investigators from Prague countryside – West, who initiated criminal proceedings in the matter on suspicion of committing the crime of public endangerment due to negligence. Damage was tentatively estimated at 9 million crowns.

As part of the investigation, the police officers will find out all the circumstances and the cause of the train derailment, whether a technical fault or a human factor played a role. The result of the driver’s breath test for the presence of alcohol was negative.

An extraordinary event is also dealt with by the Railway Inspection, which works with the variant of human factor failure or technical defect on the set.
