Richard Tandy was born on March 26, 1948 in Birmingham. He gained the greatest popularity in the music world thanks to his work in the band Electric Light Orchestra. It was most successful in the seventies and eighties of the twentieth century. She has sold more than fifty million albums worldwide and won numerous awards. Dozens of songs from her repertoire occupied the higher ranks of the sales charts. Among the most famous are Mr. Blue Sky, Hold On Tight, Telephone Line and Rock ‘N’ Roll is King.

Tandy originally played keyboards in the band The Move. However, he quickly switched to bass guitar. He joined ELO after the release of their debut album, The Electric Light Orchestra, in 1972. He initially worked there as a bassist, but over time became a keyboardist.

At the same time, he was one of the key musicians of the formation. He helped her discover a distinctive sound that combined electronic and futuristic pop with rock and orchestral arrangements.

He remained a member of the Electric Light Orchestra until 1986, when the band ceased operations. In 2014, Lynne decided to reactivate it. Of the former members, only Tandy joined him to continue making music together as ELO. Tandy left the band in 2017. That year, ELO was inducted into the Rock’n’Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, USA.

Its website states: “Tandy was instrumental in creating the ELO empire in which rock and classical music could co-exist.”
