The originally Czech and world-unique passive surveillance technology will serve as one of the basic pillars of the newly built complex air defense system of Moldova. ERA and the Estonian Center for Defense Investment ECDI have now concluded a cooperation agreement on a project for the Ministry of Defense of Moldova.
As part of the European EFP (European Peace Facility) program, the Czech company will deliver its VERA-NG passive surveillance system to Moldova.
“The VERA-NG system will be integrated with other solutions and will contribute to increasing the country’s ability to monitor, thus defend its airspace,” the company said in a press release.
ERA has already installed over 160 tracking systems in more than 67 countries on five continents. The company was founded in 1994, since 2011 it belongs to the Omnipol group. The company develops and manufactures systems that determine the location of a target using the time-hyperbolic method based on the reception and processing of signals from on-board transponders of the secondary radar system and technology for tracking and recognizing targets on a multistatic principle.
Multistatic radar works on the basis of signal reflection from the monitored target, which can be ensured either by the target’s own irradiation or by using foreign target irradiation. It is used for both military and civilian purposes.

The EPF, under which the trade will take place, is an extra-budgetary fund that finances the EU’s Common Foreign and Security Policy activities aimed at maintaining peace, preventing conflicts and strengthening international security. This is mainly the financing of the common costs of ongoing EU military missions and operations in various parts of the world.
