Former Republican United States President Donald Trump, who is again running for the White House seat, continues to maintain his lead over Democratic incumbent Joe Biden, according to a pre-election poll by SSRS for CNN. A majority of respondents also rated Trump’s four-year term positively, while less than half did for Biden.

Trump maintains the support of about 49 percent of those polled, according to a survey of registered voters, which is the same as the last CNN poll conducted in January. Biden now has slightly lower support, according to the poll, at 43 percent of those polled, down from 45 percent in January.

The survey also showed that voters for whom the economic situation is the main issue support Trump. According to CNN, it also showed that voters perceive the state of the economy as a much more important issue than in the previous two presidential elections.

Among the voters’ other priorities for the upcoming elections is the protection of democracy, to which 58 percent of the respondents subscribed. For almost half of the respondents, issues related to immigration, crime and gun ownership are important. For two-fifths, these are issues related to health care, abortion and the appointment of members of the US Supreme Court.

The poll for CNN was conducted by SSRS April 18-23. It involved 1,212 adults, including 967 registered voters. The survey was conducted either online, by phone or in person.
