The Duchess “showed solidarity with women, men and children affected by war” with her visit, London said. One of the emphasized themes was sexual violence and torture during the war.

“Women and girls pay the highest price. (…) Rape is used to humiliate, humiliate and destroy,” said a member of the British royal family in Kyiv, who is a supporter of the Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflicts initiative and has met victims of sexual violence in other countries marked by war conflicts in the past, said the British the media.

According to the BBC, during a meeting with President Zelensky and First Lady Olena Zelensky, the duchess handed them a private message from King Charles.

Sophie also met with children who were returned to Ukraine after being forcibly separated from their families.

The unexpected visit was primarily a symbolic message of royal support for Ukraine.

Sophie is known for her trips to areas not usually visited by the British royal family. Last year, she visited Baghdad, Iraq, where she again dealt with the issue of violence against women and participated in events supporting better access for girls to education. Previously, she also lived in Kosovo, Sierra Leone, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo, the BBC listed.
