The Islamists in Hamburg demanded a caliphate, the public television there was silent

--

The Saturday broadcast of the Tagesschau was filled with news about the congress of the governing coalition party, the Free Democratic Party (FDP), the closing of the Galerie-Kaufhof branches and the preparations for the Olympic Games in Paris.

On Sunday, there were reports of heavy rains in East Africa and a tornado in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou. There was no mention of the march of the Islamists and their demand for the establishment of a caliphate.

“The editors of the Tagesschau news program apparently considered the mentioned topics more important than the Islamists who, in the streets of Hamburg with the permission of the authorities, demanded that Germany be turned into an Islamist dictatorship – a caliphate where a religious leader rules and women, homosexuals, Christians or Jews have no rights.” writes the newspaper Bild.

When asked by Bild why there was no coverage of this march, the TV’s press department said: “Given the limited broadcast time, topics have to be chosen. This weekend, attention focused on, among other things, the planned closure of Galeria Kaufhof branches, the FDP party conference, the start of the European Parliament election campaign, anti-Semitic incidents at US universities and 20 years of EU enlargement to the east.

It wasn’t the first time

However, German dailies remind us that television has already experienced a similar setback. It ignored a similar demonstration in Essen last November. There, too, the Islamists demanded that a caliphate be established in Germany.

A caliphate is a form of government in which secular and religious leadership are united in the person of the caliph as the representative of the founder of the Muslim faith. There is no separation of state and religion as in Western-style democracies. Therefore, anyone who calls for the establishment of a caliphate is acting against democracy and the constitution.
