Vulgarities about Ukraine and the West. “We’ve shown the world we’re a bunch of buffoons,” said the Brexit mastermind

--

On Thursday, Dominic Cummings, the former adviser to former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson and the main architect of the success of the Brexit campaign, sharply attacked Ukraine and Western aid to Kyiv.

Cummings, who led the “Leave” campaign for Britain to leave the EU, gave an interview to iNews in which he said the West “should never have gotten into this whole stupid situation”. According to him, the sanctions against Russia had a greater impact on European politics than on Moscow.

Cummings has worked with Johnson since he campaigned to support Britain leaving the EU ahead of the 2016 referendum. He gained a powerful position after Johnson became prime minister in 2019. Because of his influence, he was nicknamed “Boris’s Brain”. Cummings quit as an adviser in the fall of 2020, and then began sharply criticizing his former boss in the media not only for his actions during the pandemic, but also for mistakes related to Brexit.

Now, the former adviser made a scathing comment on Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and the often-drawn parallels to the situation before the Second World War, to which, for example, Czech President Petr Pavel also reaches. “This is not a repeat of 1940 with the gourd (fool – note) Zelensky as Churchill’s bag,” he said.

“This whole Ukrainian corrupt mafia state basically cheated us all and we’re all going to get screwed as a result,” he claimed. “They’re going to fuck us now, aren’t they?” he said.

Cummings argued that the war would only strengthen relations between Russia and China, and that Western countries “pushed [Rusko] to an alliance with the greatest manufacturing power in the world’. Cummings has long criticized his support for Ukraine, a stance that puts him at odds with his former boss Johnson, a vocal supporter of Zelenskyi and the Ukrainian war effort. When Johnson was still at the head of the British government, Britain immediately became one of the biggest allies of Kiev, he himself was among the first politicians who came to Kiev.

His former adviser also said in an interview that the West failed to send a valuable signal to Russian President Vladimir Putin that would deter him from invading another country. “What lesson did we teach him? The lesson we’ve taught Putin is that we’re a bunch of total ****s,” Cummings claimed, adding that the war “showed the whole world what a bunch of buffoons we are.”

Politico reported Thursday that Cummings’ outburst comes as he tests whether there is room for a new political party on the islands. According to him, he organized a series of focus groups to find out the public’s views on the new anti-establishment outfit. Cummings said his “Start Up Party” would be “ruthlessly targeted at the electorate, not Westminster and the old media”.
