Modernization of Cupra Formentor and Leon is coming. Next week they will reveal the new hybrids as well as the design

--

Cupra confirms earlier reports that this year will be full of news for the brand. There are two waiting for us before long.

The long-awaited arrival of the modernization of the sports crossover Formentor now has a fixed date. At the same time, together with this premiere, the Spanish brand also announces the arrival of the modernized Cupra Leon. Both innovations will be presented on April 29, and for now Cupra provides us with a small trailer including information on what improvements we should actually expect.

We already know what the facelift of both models will look like. At the turn of last year, photos from the Cupra’s internal presentation were leaked to the public. The latest Formentor and Leon will therefore use the new design language first introduced by the Tavascan electric SUV – soon to go into production.

The current version of the Formentor has been on the market since 2020, the same age as the Cupra Leon based on the fourth generation hatchback and station wagon from Seat. At the same time, Cupra has high hopes for the modernization of the Formentor, as it wants to continue the established wave of popularity. The first independently designed model of the Spanish brand became a bestseller and over 120,000 units were sold last year alone.

The distinctive facelift of the Cupra Leon with a new design direction will in turn be an opportunity for the brand to further differentiate itself from the original parent Seat, which has not yet provided further information on the modernization of the standard Leon. Cupra further confirms that its improved Leon will be available next week in both body versions, i.e. the five-door hatchback and the Sportstourer station wagon.

So far, Cupra has not revealed anything concrete about the technology of the improved models, except for mentions that both the Formentor and the Leon will introduce the next generation of plug-in hybrid systems. Currently, both cars offer a range of traditional gasoline and diesel engines as well as a plug-in hybrid 1.4 e-Hybrid tuned to 150 kW (204 hp) or 180 kW (245 hp). The top Formentor VZ with five-cylinder 2.5 TFSI (287 kW/390 hp) was previously offered as part of a limited series.

In addition to improving driving characteristics, Cupra finally adds that as part of the modernization, both models will also introduce the next wave of digitization in the cabin and will make more extensive use of materials from renewable sources.
