Trains on long-distance and regional routes in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary and Poland transported almost eight million passengers, buses nearly four million.

The average occupancy of trains was 85 percent throughout the year. The most people traveled on the route Prague-Ostrava-Košice, which was used by 2.8 million passengers, which was a tenth more year-on-year.

However, the carrier registered the largest year-on-year increase on the Prague-Přemyšl international route, which was used by more than 230,000 passengers between the Czech Republic and Ukraine. “There has been a 60 percent increase in passenger numbers compared to 2022, with train occupancy reaching 85 percent,” RegioJet said in a press release.

Thanks to the large profit, RegioJet plans to invest in the purchase of new wagons, locomotives or electric sets for the newly competitive lines within the framework of subsidized transport, said the owner of the company, Radim Jančura. “We plan to invest 1.5 billion CZK this year and three to four billion CZK next year,” he added.

In autumn, the carrier should receive 13 ordered TRAXX MS3 locomotives from Alstom, which are more energy efficient. They will be deployed on long-distance domestic and interstate connections.
