Opel Combo diesel (2024): Space, equipment, price

--

Well, he’s finally back! After a temporary extempore with an electric version as the only possible choice and the escape variant of the N1, the popular family car from Opel returns in full force and with all available engines. And also after decent modernization.

The current generation, presented already in 2018, was dusted off at the turn of the year and given a nice look – you can recognize it at first glance by the “Vizor”, a typical design element on the fronts of all modern Opels. The blinded radiator grille is framed by completely new headlights with IntelliLux LED Pixel technology with the function of covering other road users when the main beam is on – seven individually controllable segments in each of the headlights (14 in total) are used for this, so they shine more, better spread the illuminated area and, most importantly they don’t dazzle. And the best thing about them is that they are basic even for the lowest trim level!

The new face suits the modernized Comb. The LED headlights have a distinctive light signature and anti-glare technology.

In the cabin, you can look forward to a new multifunction steering wheel, a digital instrument panel (basically monochrome, in higher versions colored) and a 10″ touch screen with the latest system (basically already capable of wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, the higher version has HD resolution, two additional speakers and, above all, it can navigate), plus USB-C connectors and a new high-resolution parking camera.

The interior is simple but well appointed. And above all extremely practical.

But the most important thing has not changed: Combo still manages to impress with its fantastic practicality. You can get it in two lengths and with five or seven seats, in the second row you can choose between a bench (divided 60 : 40) or three individual seats (but you always have three isofixes), the seats in the third row can be folded down separately or removed straight away. In addition, there are 28 storage spaces, pockets and boxes with a total volume of 186 liters strategically placed around the cabin, there are folding tables on the backs of the front seats… and the whole interior is so sophisticated that all families will love it.

There are plenty of storage boxes throughout the interior. You can easily lose anything here – and then you will probably never find it again.

L1 L2
Length 4410 mm 4,760 mm
Width 1775 mm 1787 mm
Height 1921 mm 1921 mm
Wheelbase 2785 mm 2975 mm
Trunk volume 597 l 850 l
Max. load area 3.05 m 3.50 m

Just be prepared that the cabin won’t spoil you with soft plastics and fancy decors, it’s a van at heart. That’s why you also have to put up with a slow steering gear or a little more noise and a lower level of comfort than you would experience in a modern SUV… But it probably won’t bother you, because the Combo drives comfortably and refined enough to make you even on long trips to the family nothing hindered or limited the vacation.

Two wheelbase lengths, five or seven seats… the choice is yours.

Especially when you can finally choose the engine you really want again. The base is a three-cylinder petrol 1.2 Turbo producing a solid 110 hp and combined with a six-speed manual (we guess that the offer will soon be expanded by a 136 hp mild-hybrid version with a dual-clutch automatic), which will certainly be nice for those who don’t drive that much and usually don’t have a car packed to the roof.

The space and variability of the interior is the biggest asset of the Comba.

But you only need to pay 40,000 more and you can have a four-cylinder turbodiesel 1.5 CDTI – it has 102 hp and 250 Nm as a base, with higher equipment you get a more powerful 130 hp variant with the option of choosing between a manual (then its torque is limited to 250 Nm) or eight-speed automatic (thanks to which it squeezes out 300 Nm straight away). It is this more powerful version that should be the bestseller of this model, and you really can’t go wrong with it – the engine is “personally” educated, potent and at the same time refined. And it is nicely matched with a smooth and smart automatic transmission.

The airiness of the interior is also enhanced by the optional sunroof.

Electric road

The battery version of the Comba has not disappeared anywhere, Opel still has it in the offer and also in a modernized form. So, in terms of exterior and interior, the technology remained the same: 136 hp electric motor and a battery with a capacity of 50 kWh (usable 45 kWh) enabling a range of 345 km. Which is a bit of a shame, because the Stellantis passenger cars already offer a more powerful and efficient design (156 hp and 54 kWh). On the other hand, the electric Combo still comfortably fits under a million crowns, which makes it the cheapest seven-seater electric car on the market.

You can still have the Opel Combo in an electric version, but most Czech customers will certainly appreciate the return of combustion engines more.

The modernization of the Comba was really successful – it builds on the strengths of the model and adds a few extra nice improvements (mainly the smart lights that significantly differentiate it from its siblings). And above all, it brings popular power units back into play. If you have a large family or simply need space for your hobbies and interests or work duties, the Opel Combo is the perfect option. Especially for this money…

Current price list of combustion versions of the Opel Combo.

The price list of the modernized Comba starts at 549,990 CZK including VAT and in the civilian M1 variant. At the same time, it already has smart IntelliLux headlights, manual air conditioning, electric front windows, a 10″ audio system with 4 speakers and wireless phone mirroring, rear parking sensors or central locking with remote control and many other essentials.

If you like it, hurry up. The Czech representative office of Opel has an allocated production of 600 units for this year, and half of them have already been sold without anyone driving the car. So that it still gets to you…
