Are we headed for a new batch of boys with stones, chains mistakenly put in another cup and slogans that the whole nation will repeat with amusement? Looks like it. Zdeněk Pohlreich (66), despite the initial fundamental disagreement, nodded that he would return with the program Ano, šefo!, which made him famous. And eXtra.cz revealed what led him to it and what viewers can look forward to. “Hopefully we’ll shoot it so it’s not stupid,” he says amused.

15 years ago, few people outside the culinary industry knew the name of Zdenek Pohlreich (66), then he burst onto the television screens like a flood with the show Ano, šefo!, in which he helped renovate dysfunctional bars and restaurants. And the audience was ecstatic.
Today, the famous eXtra.cz chef revealed why he nodded to the new series, even though he had previously vowed that he would never return to the show.
“There was an offer if I would Yes, boss! he didn’t want to do it again. After much consideration, I decided that there was really no real reason to turn it down. Except I really said I was never going to shoot it again. I did break that promise, but that statement was relevant at the time it came out, not now. And now the situation is what it is. I just adapted to what was happening,” a recognized gastronomy expert told our editors, who amusedly calls the situation “the return of the pink panther”.
“That program helped to improve Czech gastronomy, it was a piece of fun, we laughed many times during the filming. That’s valuable, that doesn’t always happen,” he recalls a time long past, which may be returning now.

Is the smell and dirt coming back?
The question is whether extremes will be sought exclusively for filming (do you remember the disgusting establishments full of drunken cooks, the smell of spoiled food in the freezers and with mold in every corner?) or whether Pohlreich’s “evangelization”, i.e. the fact that, thanks to the now-returning program, he significantly helped fundamentally raise Czech gastronomy to a qualitatively much better level (no one will ever tell him that again), he will also be seen in the new series Yes, boss!.
“Gastronomy in the Czech Republic is basically at a good level today, however somewhere further below the surface, the problems that we solved fifteen or ten years ago definitely still exist and survive. Such enterprises will probably be sought after. But I will at least participate in the selection of the places where the new series will take place, it goes behind the production. I know something about it, but I’ve never had a say in where it goes. My policy has always been not to get involved in production matters. And that’s how it will stay,” he revealed further.
Don’t expect big changes
Fans of the show will of course be interested in whether there will be any major changes or innovations.
“That’s a pretty classic question. I don’t think there is a need for a significant change. There is a template (Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares), she must be honored. And the situation changes, the conditions are different, but the problems basically remain, so it is not necessary to completely reformat it. If people want to watch Yes, Boss!, it’s probably because that’s what it is. I don’t know about any brutal innovations yet,” explained eXtra.cz.
And are they already honing the buzzwords that helped make the TV Prima program so famous?
“I never sharpened them, so I don’t sharpen them now either,” Zdeněk Pohlreich said amusedly. “But all in all, I hope it works out so that we don’t have to listen to him being a jerk,” he added with a smile.
When Pohlreich trashed Prima with other parts, she tried to keep the format alive with a new couple, a restaurateur Jitka Pagana and her Italian son Sante in the program Yes, boss! The program in this form, however,it didn’t do well at all and ended after one season. The very Yes boss! had a total of 7 series between 2009 and 2018, plus spin-offs with returns Enough, boss! and How was it boss? The original series is still so popular today that the individual episodes have a decent viewership even after the hundredth repetition.
