The founder of the summer cinema is leaving the project after 18 years, it will continue to be shown

The Pardubice summer cinema will be screening this year as well. The organizers have already prepared a program for July, and it is so clear that people from Pardubice and the surrounding area can once again look forward to a large and especially free dose of films under the open sky.

But one thing will be different. Jan Motyčka will no longer circle the grounds with an energetic step. That is, the man who started the project in 2006 while still in Tyršový sady. “I’m done. It’s my personal decision. I understood that there is no other way. I want the cinema to continue working, and it simply won’t work with me anymore,” said Jan Motyčka.

He has been repeating for a long time that he bothers the people at the town hall. He thinks this is because his project did not receive a subsidy of 300,000 from the city last year.

“That was liquidating for me personally,” said Motyčka.

However, politicians defend themselves by saying that they could not proceed differently. The organizer of the free screening did not deliver all the necessary documents on time, which are necessary to earn public money. Specifically, it was about proving that you were debt-free. “I am attaching the relevant certificate of debt-free status together with a big apology for the delay,” Jan Motyčka wrote to politicians at the end of September.

But from his point of view, it was a late regret. He only had until the end of August from the councilors. “We can’t pretend that Mr. Motyčka just missed it. The deadline expired a long time ago,” said Mayor Jan Nadrchal from ANO.

His deputy and party colleague Jiřina Klčová then added that she was not happy about the strict decision. “We urged the company to document the document several times. We offered dates for meetings, we behaved in an above-standard manner. Unfortunately, nothing worked,” said the politician, who said at the council meeting that Motyčka was ending at the cinema.

“Mr. Motyčka has already agreed to transfer the rights to another company. We are ready to give her an annual subsidy for the operation of the cinema in the amount of 300 thousand crowns. Nothing fundamental should change for the viewers,” said Klčová.

However, Motyčka takes his end very hard and it was certainly not an easy decision on his part. “He came to this conclusion. I am very sad about everything, but I realized that I am an obstacle to the further continuation of the project, to which I have given 20 years of my life and a lot of money and energy. I will not comment on the reasons for my end now,” said Motyčka, adding that his long-time colleague Tomáš Drechsler will still remain in the cinema.

“It will continue to be projected. I have even been promised that the director Miloslav Šmídmajer, who will become a co-owner of the cinema, should personally take care of the projector in Pardubice. Which makes me very happy. The screening will start on June 21,” added Motyčka.

The former head of the Pernštejn brewery Leoš Kvapil, who is the chairman of the registered association Zelená brána – Polabí, which takes care of the cinema area, also remains with the project. It is located in a meadow near the Pavel Wonka bridge in the second city district.

“On Sunday, we organized the burning of witches in the cinema, and we arranged everything with Messrs. Kvapil and Drechsler just fine. It will probably be the same with the cinema. We have already offered them that when they have a definitively fine-tuned program, they should send it to us so that we can print it in the newsletter,” said the mayor of the second district of Polabina and city councilor Radek Hejný, elected for ANO.
