The Moravian-Silesian traffic police focused on the dangerous overtaking of trucks on the D1 highway. In cooperation with colleagues from the Air Force, they managed to catch a total of 16 drivers who committed overtaking at insufficient speed or other traffic offences. The police have now released footage of gambling behind the wheel. They reported on the entire event on their website.
Police officers from the regional road supervision department, the Ostrava highway department and the Frýdek-Místek highway department participated in the joint event. They also had a drone system at their disposal, with which they checked and recorded the dangerous maneuvers of truck drivers, Soňa Štětínská, a spokeswoman for the Moravian-Silesian police, said in a report on the official website.

These were mainly situations where the trucks did not have sufficient speed when overtaking, thus limiting the smooth traffic of other vehicles. Police officers remind that drivers are breaking the law with such behavior.
During the cooperation of several hours, the police recorded a total of 16 traffic violations, mainly involving drivers of foreign nationalities. All fines were issued by the patrols on the spot, they collected a total of 75 thousand crowns.
“Newly, for such an offense, a sanction in the range of 4,500 to 5,500 crowns and 6 points is awarded. In administrative proceedings, the amount of the fine can rise to 25,000 crowns,” the police write on their website.
Other patrols checked other trucks. “Three of them were found to be in unsatisfactory technical condition. A trio of vehicles “did not pass” the low-speed control weighing, where the scales showed an exceeded permissible weight,” explained Štětínská about the results of the event.
The police officers also recorded four drivers with a mobile phone or other device in their hand while driving or failure to observe the driving and rest time for two people. Another driver hit the highway without the mandatory license plate.
