Criminal investigators announced on Saturday that, based on newly acquired information, they have initiated criminal proceedings on suspicion of the crime of negligent bodily harm.

They also thanked the media for publishing an appeal addressed to the injured women whom the police could not contact. “During today, the legal representative of one of the victims, who represents the woman, contacted us,” the police said on the X social network on Saturday.

A healthy pregnant woman who miscarried at the Bulovka hospital came for a routine check-up. According to available information, they confused her with another patient, on whom the doctors were supposed to perform a so-called curettage, which is applied, for example, in the treatment of a diseased uterus, but can also terminate a pregnancy. The patients are allegedly two foreign women who live permanently in the Czech Republic.

The Ministry of Health announced on Thursday that it considers the incident to be an inexcusable human factor failure. The hospital has apologized to the family and is ready to provide compensation to the patient, the culprits have been suspended, said ministry spokesman Ondřej Jakob.
